Let me preface this by saying I do not hate the LDS Church! I have family and friends who are active LDS and I truly respect them for that. this is not meant to bash the LDS church either. But after my experience yesterday I really felt the need to examine my personal beliefs and thoughts and provide a response to what happened to me by members of the LDS church.
I do not hate anyone for their beliefs, in fact I feel hate is word I would like to see removed from the english language.
The people that know me personally know, I do not pray every day, not that there is anything wrong with praying, if you feel the need to. But last night I did get down and pray for some guidance, you see I was hurt by some people in the church on a political discussion and I want to respond to that without hate, name calling, or attacking anyone elses personal beliefs like mine were.
I was born and raised in the LDS church, attended church faithfully until the age of 16. At no time when I attended and followed that religion did I ever see anyone condoning the practice of not accepting others, and verbally abusing them. In fact I was always taught to love thy neighbor. What changed, the vicious attack I was subjected to would never have been allowed when I was younger, I am so dismayed that these people who call themselves “God Fearing Christians” could subject another human being to that. Have these people forgotten the persecution the members of the LDS faith were subjected to in the 1800’s? To me the leaders of the LDS faith need to instruct their members to accept everyone for who they are and as Jesus said “Love thy neighbor”.
The discrimination going on by some members of the LDS faith is deplorable and that is being nice. I used to think that sometime in my life I might reconsider my feelings and get involved with the church again, but if this is what is happening, I will totally rethink that.
So here I am still believing in what I believe, and ready to move on with my life, I do love all my Family and friends in the LDS faith, and I hope that each of them can still love and respect me too, for my thoughts today, as we all just need to get along. We are all Gods children, and I believe God does not want us hating each other, or causing hurt to each other.
By the way a little more about me:
I am still very happily married to my wife Melia of almost 39 years, wow time goes so fast… We have always been then mother and father to all of our children’s friends when they have needed us, and to this day we are always willing to offer a helping hand whenever we can, we even had our niece and her boys live with us for a few months last year to help keep her from being out in the street with no place to live, My wife and I both feel it is very important not to judge them, but help them in every way possible to better their lives. If we were wealthy we would probably pay for a place for them to live, too bad to we are not wealthy enough to do that. We both thought that by now we would be true empty nesters, but is seems there is always someone out there who needs a helping hand
My politics are more to the left then to the right, but I do not believe in any party, I vote for who I feel is the best person to do the job. I am for term limits of not more than two terms for any office an individual is elected to. I wish all voters would exercise the right to vote and vote responsible, wouldn’t it be great if all voters would agree to vote out the incumbents after two terms than maybe we could get some honest people in office because they could not make that office a career. I do not believe we will ever get the politicians to vote for term limits, since it would not offer them the potential of a permanent position. I would also like to see in my lifetime no more lobbyists, or large campaign contributions, all contributions should be limited to a one time donation of $50.00 that way no politicians would owe someone a favor since they contributed so much money to their campaign. I guess a lot of this is all a pipe dream…
I enjoy Photography, Hiking, Writing, and All Music except for hip hop, or rap… and just living life, one of my sayings is “Live everyday to its fullest as you never know what tomorrow may bring”.
I believe everyone should be able to live anyway they want to, to be guaranteed all their civil rights, as long as they do not cause harm to me or my family. I detest discrimination of any kind.
I believe there is still to much hate and bigotry in our world and we a have a long way to go to overcome it.
I am proud of my Family and always hope for the best in their lives.
Always Remember Rusty Loves you!!!!!!
